Few days ago, the court received the case file against the president of “Besa” football club, Shpëtim Bishdili, accused of match fixing. The Prosecution has filed the complete case file to the court, enclosing also the transcripts of the traced calls that reveal his requests for money against deliberate match losses. Additionally, the accusing body has transcribed all the text messages sent by Bishdili to different people offering them money, or asking them to “buy” players, coaches or referees.
As per the prosecution file, the defendant Shpëtim Bishdili, president of the Kavaja football club “Besa”, has been involved in various efforts to predetermine the result of his team’s matches in the Albanian superior league of the football championship, and in the category U-17 and U-19. However, his requests for match fixing have been rejected in most of the cases by the referees, coaches or football players, thus leading to results he did not like.
Regarding the Apollonia vs. Besa match, played on 25/11/2012, at 14:00, which ended up in the final score of 2-1, the defendant has tried to talk to one of the Apollonia players, and promise to give them “thirty grand”, as he used to say. He tried to convince the referee, Ervis Peza; the winger, Denis Agaraj, asking him a favor in that match. Moreover, the defendant has promised to give an amount of USD 15.000 or the same amount in any other currency, such as EUR or ALL, to the players and referees of the Fieri team.
In another match, dated on 02/12/2012, at 10:00, between Kavaja and Lushnja youth teams, he had tried to convince Kavaja players to loose the game and give the three points to the Lushnja team, since the former were in the last position in the classification. The defendant has spoken to the Besa junior team coach, to let Lushnja team win the game, promising him to give them back the three points later, but the coach did not accept, and this match was won 2-1 by Besa. The phone conversation referring to the match Tomorri vs. Besa, on 16.02.2013, at 14.00, played in the city of Berat, ended with the result 1-0 for Tomorri. He has asked Tomorri to loose, and let them win, since they were already out of the competition. He had promised an amount of ALL 1 million for this match.
The prosecution claims that the defendant, Shpëtim Bishdili, has influenced to predetermine the result of the match played on 24.02.2013 between the Kavaja U-19 team and the Dinamo U-19 team, so that Besa could win. This would be accomplished by having some weak reserve players entering the game, so that, even if the match were in favor of the Dynamo team, there would be at least a breach in the normal protocol, so that at the end the score would be the predetermined one. However, the defendant had to talk to the referee too. At the end, the match ended with a 0-0 score, regardless of the attempts of the defendant to fix it.
The defendant has tried to predetermine the score of other matches as well, such as, Tirana vs. Besa and Besa vs. Luftëtari, played respectively on 10.03.2013 and 17.03.2013, at 14.00. For the match versus Tirana, the defendant has talked to the main referee assigned to the match in question, and to the representative of the Tirana football club, asking from the first one to help his team during the match and in assigning cartoons, and to the other one to help the team through the fans in the stadium, or through advices about the Tirana team.
Ultimately, Besa won the match Tirana vs. Besa, in a 2-1 win. In the match Besa vs. Luftëtari, played on 17/03/2013, at 14:00, the defendant has intervened to have the assigned referee removed and replaced by a referee from Tirana. Even though the referee was not substituted at the end, the defendant asked him to favor his team, and Besa won 2-0 even this match.
